Greg McKinnon named Managing Partner of HM

We are pleased to announce that Greg McKinnon has been named Managing Partner of Hemming Morse, LLP.  Greg has been a part of the HM team since 2006.  We congratulate him and look forward to his leadership in this role.  Colin Johns, HM’s former Managing Partner, continues to be a Partner in the firm’s Forensic and Financial Services Group.

Tatyana Shtyrkova Joins the San Francisco CalCPA Board of Directors

Susan Thompson and Carl Saba collaborate to help earn Plaintiff an award of $4.5 million.

Susan Thompson, a Hemming Morse partner, testified in the Superior Court of Fresno County on behalf of Plaintiff in Fresno RV v. Paul Evert’s RV Country. At trial, the court awarded $500,000 of assumed damages to Plaintiff for damage to business reputation, sales and profits. Ms. Thompson and Carl Saba, also a partner at Hemming Morse, then performed a valuation of the Defendant’s net worth. The Hemming Morse team was able to prove that Defendant’s did have net worth, and punitive damages were awarded to Plaintiff for over $4.0 million, bringing the total award to over $4.5 million. Click to view article.

Steven Boyles Testifies on behalf of Plaintiff in Sonoma County Resulting in $13 Million Verdict

Hemming Morse Partner, Steven Boyles, testified in the Superior Court of Sonoma County over the course of two days on behalf of the plaintiff in Jeffrey Coury v. Chicago Title Insurance Company.  Mr. Coury filed his breach of contract claim alleging, among other things, that Chicago Title had breached his employment contracts by not providing him stock grants and stock option awards he was entitled to per the contracts.  The Hemming Morse team developed numerous financial models quantifying the damages to Mr. Coury, including quantifying the value of the stock grants and stock option awards, upon which Mr. Boyles testified to during trial.  On June 7, 2013, the jury awarded monetary damages in excess of $13 million (plus fees) to Mr. Coury (resulting in one of the largest judgments ever entered in Sonoma County).

HM named one of the Best Accounting Firms to Work For

For the 3rd year in a row, Hemming Morse has been named as one of the Best Accounting Firms to Work For by Accounting Today, a national industry publication.

Hundreds of accounting firms across the country entered the two-part survey process to determine the Best Accounting Firms to Work For. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated firm’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second portion consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the top firms and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration, survey and analysis process and determined the final rankings.

This survey and award program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in the accounting industry, benefiting the nation’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The Best Accounting Firms to Work For list is made up of a total of 100 companies, split into three groups: 45 small-sized companies (15 – 39 employees), 45 medium-sized companies (50-249 employees) and 10 large-sized companies (more than 250 employees). Hemming Morse is proud to be ranked 12th in the medium-sized companies category. 

Greg Regan named Forensic Accounting Volunteer of the Year

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has named Greg Regan, Partner, the Forensic Accounting Volunteer of the Year. Greg was selected for his dedicated work on AICPA’s Forensic and Litigation Services (FLS) Committee, his co-authorship on its Practice AID on Discount Rates, Risk and Uncertainty in Economic Damages Calculations, his leadership on education and his work on the Annual Forensic Services Conference.
