Paul Regan served as an expert and testified at trial on behalf of plaintiffs in (California Baristas of Starbucks) Chou v. Starbucks. The litigation involved whether it was improper for Starbucks to allow its shift supervisors to share in the tips provided by customers. The plaintiffs asserted, and the Court agreed, that the shift supervisors should not have taken a portion of the tips. The Court awarded the Baristas $86 million in damages plus $20 million in interest. Mr. Regan testified that the shift supervisors received tips for 50,674,694 hours of work during the class period in California Starbucks stores.
