Troy Atkinson is a Director in the Employee Benefit Plans Group in the San Francisco office of Hemming Morse, Inc., one of the largest employee-benefit auditing firms in California. His experience includes auditing single- and multi-employer plans ranging from $100,000 to $4 billion in assets. Types of plans that he has audited include health and welfare, pension, 401(K), 403(B), legal services, vacation and apprenticeship. Troy has also been engaged as an independent consultant to investigate fraudulent transactions unique to employee benefit plans as well as financial transactions that violate employee benefit plan laws. In addition, he has consulted on the sufficiency of other CPAs’ audit procedures, and, on behalf of clients, he has verified the hardship claims of contributing employers.   More recently, Troy has developed an expertise in the new requirement's of auditing 403 (b) plans and the expanded reporting in form 5500, schedule C.  Troy is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He is also active in the Western Association of Accounting Firms and participates in several annual professional conferences that focus on industry auditing issues. Troy joined HMI as a Staff Auditor in 1993 after graduating from California State University, Chico, with a B.S. degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting.
